Negative media, unhealthy role models, unrealistic standards of beauty…it’s very challenging growing up as a girl today.

It’s even more challenging as a parent to find positive and empowering resources for our daughters.

Read these disturbing facts…

  • 7 in 10 girls believe they are not good enough or do not measure up in some way.
  • 81% of 10-year-old girls are afraid of being fat.
  • Three-fourths of girls with low self-esteem engage in negative activities, such as disordered eating, bullying, cutting, smoking or drinking. This compares to 25% of girls with high self-esteem.LowSelfEsteem
  • Every 7 minutes a child is bullied in school and over 42% of kids have been bullied while online.
  • About 20% of tweens/teens will experience depression before they reach adulthood.
  • Girls  that have a negative view of themselves are four times more likely to take part in activities with boys that they’ve ended up regretting later.
  • 57% of rock music videos portray women as a sex object, a victim, as unintelligent, or in a condescending way.
  • Suicide is the third leading cause of death among adolescents and teenagers. Teen girls are more likely to attempt suicide.

***All of these issues are due to low self-esteem!***

 Don’t risk your girl’s self-esteem.

  36. Hi, we met at last years Women’s Conference in Southern California! Hope you are well! My oldest daughter will be 7 in March so thought it would be great for her to start reading! They attend Aspen Academy in Greenwood Village, CO where the only rule is to be KIND–sounds like your mag will be right up their alley!! In kindness with gratitude, Angela Fox

  37. Is there a trial issue of your magazine?

  38. I was wondering how diverse your magazine is. My daughter is biracial and would love for her to not only continue her positive self image but be able to identify with the girls that might be in your magazine. I have never read or seen your magazine, it sounds great, I’m just curious about the diversity before I order it. Thank you.

  39. Thanks for your interest, Ann! BYOU Magazine is ideally targeted to girls ages 8-14, but we encourage younger girls to also read its positive messaging to begin their empowerment early to help navigate the challenging tween/teen years. The content is very uplifting, encouraging, informational, wholesome, fun, and age-appropriate, a.k.a. there are no articles on dating, boys, drugs, makeup trends, etc. Our founder and publisher Debra Gano has a 12-year-old daughter herself and is very particular that our content is appropriate for girls in this vulnerable age group. We feel it would be ideal for your daughter; in fact, we accept applications to be in BYOU from girls ages 7-17. So get her a subscription and encourage her to submit!

  40. What age is this magazine good for? I have a 7 year old.

  41. Thank you so much for your interest in BYOU Magazine, you’ll love it! Please allow up to 6 weeks to receive your first issue OK?

  42. How long does it take to get the first magazine, I signed up for a year subscription 3 weeks ago, but haven’t rec’d a copy yet?

  47. Our dogs, who were puppies at the time, were featured in Feb/Mar on a fluke of being in right place at right time. Only I feel it was an appointment of divinity in our case. My 10 year old daughter loves the magazine contents. She is amazed at the accomplishments and it has inspired her. She has improved grades (Im tickled about that!) and wears her BYOU braclet proudly. Im not sure whether to order subscription or keep picking up a copy at our local Barnes and Noble so that we are showing local support in them ordering it. Still debating. The subscription sales are very tempting:-) Will pickup out of stock to keep up the sales locally for now, but may change to subscription later. Keep up the good work, I just love the mission behind this magazine. Thank you for the thrill of our little-ones moment of fame with Kat too, precious beyond words and what an amazing person she is. Thank you BYOU! your new fans – Dani-Lynn (mom) and Rikki-Lynn (10yr old daughter).
