Think how fun would it be to do an internship with BYOU Magazine, the premiere international empowerment magazine for tween and teen girls! Heartlight Girls Publications, LLC (the publisher of BYOU Magazine) is looking for a few select people to intern with BYOU Magazine for 3-12 month periods. Build your resume and gain valuable experience with one of the fastest growing magazines around—plus be a contributing team member that helps make a difference in the lives of girls worldwide! Perfect for go-getter students who want to have a meaningful experience. Who do you know that might be interested?

Here are the internship positions available:

  • Editorial / Journalism (virtually or Denver-area position, see description below)
  • Video Production (virtually or Denver-area position, see description below)
  • Digital / Website Production (virtually or Denver-area position, see description below)
  • Marketing / Social Media (Virtually or Denver-area position, see description below)

Internships are 10-30 hours per week based on your availability and are unpaid, however academic credit is available and future job opportunities exist. Applicants must be at least a high school junior (college preferred) and have a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Applicants must have laptop computer, cell phone, and transportation (if needed). Above, all a positive and enthusiastic attitude is required!

Editorial / Journalism Internship

This position will work closely with the BYOU Magazine team (virtually or at our Centennial, CO office) and includes blog/magazine writing/editing, behind-the-scenes administration, research, marketing and social media projects, and various media activities. Student studying journalism, professional writing, or related field are preferred, as well as in interest in female empowerment/self-esteem and pop culture as it relates to our youth.

Preferable Skills/Experience:

  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with attention to details necessary
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, & PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of WordPress platform helpful
  • Comfortable with sending emails, making phone calls, and conducting interviews
  • Aptitude to create and complete goals in timely and efficient manner
  • Able to work with a team and/or independently; take direction well
  • Maintain a friendly, positive, outgoing, creative, can-do attitude
  • Basic computer competency
  • Knowledgeable of the BYOU Magazine brand

 

Video Production Internship

This position will work closely with the BYOU Magazine team and independently (virtually or at our Centennial, CO office), and consists primarily of producing engaging videos that will be used for promotional and social use on websites, social media, and at events. Videos will include celebrity behind-the-scenes, red carpet interviews, empowering/inspirational messages, etc. Some research and marketing duties may be included as well. Students studying media production, animation, graphics, or related field are preferred. 

Preferred Skills / Experience:

  • Ability to compose attractive videos
  • Proficient in social media platforms
  • Experience with YouTube.com
  • Have video production software/equipment
  • Able to work with a team or independently
  • Knowledgeable of the BYOU Magazine brand

 

Digital / Website Production Internship

The intern will work directly with the BYOU Magazine team (virtually or at our Centennial, CO office) and will be involved in all facets of web production and our blogging platform, including research of current web trends. This internship is ideal for a self-starter and gives the opportunity to proactively implement new ideas and improvements to convert and enhance our current web presence. Students studying digital media, web production, graphics, or related field are preferred.

 Preferred Skills / Experience:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, & PowerPoint
  • Knowledgeable in WordPress
  • Basic HTML and SEO knowledge
  • Ability to multi-task, detail oriented
  • Strong writing skills and creative insight
  • Knowledgeable of the BYOU Magazine brand

 

Public Relations/Marketing / Social Media Internship

This internship will provide the student with hands-on experience with building the BYOU Magazine brand and the opportunity to learn and develop skills necessary for a successful career in the public relations field. Interns must have good communication skills, strong writing skills, be comfortable with speaking on the phone, creativity, and a genuine interest in magazine production and promotion. Includes research/analysis of current market trends and related areas. Students studying PR, journalism, marketing, social media, or communications are preferred.

Preferred Skills / Experience:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, & PowerPoint
  • Knowledgeable in social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube & Tumblr)
  • Knowledge of (or interest in learning) WordPress
  • Knowledge of writing media news releases
  • Strong writing skills and creative insight/ideas
  • Interest in tween/teen girl industry & BYOU Magazine brand
  • Able to work independently and in a team setting
