Being Great(ful) Using a Gratitude Journal
Have you ever noticed that people seem to become more grateful during the holiday season? Being grateful has many positive benefits, from lifting your mood to attracting to you more wonderful things to be grateful for! But why limit these awesome benefits to only holiday time?
Experience the benefits of being grateful year around with a Gratitude Journal! By taking just a few minutes every day to acknowledge things in your life that you feel thankful for, you can increase the joy in your life significantly! Here’s how you do it:
Each night, write down 5 things that you are thankful for. You can write silly or funny things. Write down things that you love, like yummy foods you have tried, your pets that snuggle with you, maybe a good grade in class! You can write song lyrics, famous quotes, even people who make your day better. No matter what, don’t forget to write in your Gratitude Journal.
It’s easy to get caught up in the craziness of everyday life – school, family, friends, extra-curricular activities, OMG! However, if we don’t stop to say “thank you” for all of the blessings we are given, we can miss out on the beauty that surrounds us. Beauty isn’t just a word that describes pretty things. Beauty is a feeling and an emotion; beauty is that ‘thing’ inside of us that makes us who we are!
Why not search for the beauty in your life & create a Gratitude Journal? It’s a very simple and fun way to record what you’re truly thankful for. After a while, you’ll feel a difference inside and will actively search for things during your day to write about in your journal at night. Here’s how to create your Gratitude Journal:
- Get or make a journal with blank pages and clearly identify the outside of it as your “Gratitude Journal”
- Decorate your journal! Add jewels, glitter, photos, doodles and more to add your personality
- 10 minutes before bedtime each night, write down 5 things that you are thankful for that day. You can keep things quick and simple (use a pen or pencil) or have some extra fun (use markers, crayons, puffy paint, pictures, etc.)
- Keep your Gratitude Journal in a safe place. Remember, it’s not something to show off or flaunt. It’s personal – kind of like a diary!
