Cassandra Hsiao, BYOU Magazine Teen Reporter, Accepted to All Eight Ivy League Colleges!

Cassandra Hsiao_CroppedWe would like to extend a HUGE congratulations  to BYOU Magazine’s premiere teen reporter, Cassandra Hsiao, who has been accepted to all eight Ivy League universities! Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Columbia, Cornell, Brown, Dartmouth, and Penn Universities have all accepted Cassandra to become a part of their Class of 2021. Wow, we are SO proud of Cassandra!

And not only is this 17-year-old southern California high school senior accepted to all eight Ivy League colleges, Cassandra can also add to her list being accepted to Stanford University, Johns Hopkins University, University of Southern California, Northwestern University, New York University, Amherst Collage, and various colleges in the UC System. Wow again!

Cassandra Hsiao received a Gracie Award for her work in the media!

Cassandra is BYOU Magazine’s go-to girl for reporting at Hollywood red carpet events and movie premieres (check out some of her celebrity interviews below). But on-location reporting is just a sliver of the talent of this remarkable young woman. Cassandra maintains a 4.6 GPA, scored a near perfect on her SATs and ACTS, and has received numerous awards and scholarships as well! Even more interesting, Cassandra is a first-generation immigrant from Malaysia. She moved to the United States with her parents when she was only 5-years-old. Cassandra now lives in California where she attends Orange County School of the Arts. At her school she is enrolled in OCSA’s Creative Writing Conservatory, is one of two student body presidents on the school’s Leadership Council, and is one of the editors-in-chief of Inkblot, OCSA’s Creative Writing Conservatory’s literary magazine.

Cassandra worked very hard to achieve all she’s accomplished at just the young age of 17. In her essay submitted with her college applications, she wrote about the struggles her family had learning English and adapting to life in the United States. She shared, “For me, the struggles of learning English isn’t an obvious one.” Instead, it’s the little things, like grammar rules and intonation that made her “realize her experience is unique to immigrant families.” She also discussed the difficulties and wonders of growing up in an immigrant household and the challenges to adapt to living in the United States.

As an accomplished poet, entertainment journalist, and playwright, Cassandra plans to pursue journalism, film, or theater writing after she makes the tough decision of where she will be spending her college years. She has not made a decision on where she will attend just yet, but where ever she chooses to go we know that she will succeed!

Congrats, Cassandra! Your BYOU Mag fam is incredibly excited for you!
