Bailee is exceptionally talented as an actress, and you’ll recognize her for her television roles on Wizards of Waverly Place, Once Upon a Time, ABC’s Trophy Wife, and ABC Family’s The Fosters which premiers this June. She has worked with Hollywood’s top stars and has many movie credits to her name; our readers will best know Bailee from her films Parental Guidance, Just Go With It, and of course, for her adorable and memorable character May Belle from Bridge to Terabithia, which she filmed when she was only 8 years old. Now 14, Bailee moves from one film set to another, having just completed filming in Montreal for an upcoming Hallmark holiday movie, North Pole (see below).

This busy young lady makes it a priority to have time for family, friends, and doing charity work. (Read about her work with Alex’s Lemonade Stand!) She feels her gift of talent that puts her in the spotlight also gives her a powerful platform to be a positive role model and make a difference in the world. And even though Bailee spends most of her days in a ‘grown-up’ world and is mature beyond her years, she understands the importance of being silly and staying a little girl at heart.

Since this is our B-SILLY issue, I have to start by asking you: Are you silly?

BAILEE: I am a totally silly person! I am the biggest dork you’ll ever meet! I will randomly break into song when I hear something that triggers it; I use puns all the time, and will totally say something out of the blue. I’ll act goofy and won’t really worry what others think. I like having fun. One of my most favorite things to do is laugh, and if I have an opportunity to laugh, I’m going to laugh my butt off because I love it so much. When you having fun, you’re just happy and you get to smile and laugh. That’s what I love to do.

Do you think girls can lose the freedom to be themselves and be silly?BYOU_MayJune_2014 24.p1.pdf.r300

B: It seems as girls get older they get all serious. Be silly! I’m not saying you should act like you’re three, but if you feel like dancing and making silly music videos with your friends when you’re in the middle of the park, just do it. Have fun. You’re making memories and they will be the moments you’re going to always remember. If you take yourself too seriously, it’s not going to do any good for you or anyone. When you’re having more fun, your friends and people around you will have more fun too. It’s like a chain reaction.

Do you feel it helps build self-esteem if you allow yourself to be silly?

B: If you’re cool with making a complete fool of yourself, then you have the best self-esteem around! It’s very empowering to be in an embarrassing situation and not get taken out by it. Recently I was filming my upcoming Hallmark Movie North Pole in Montreal and I was supposed to hit someone with a snowball. It was the last shot of the day and it was freezing cold (like negative 10 degrees) and everyone was really hoping it would go quickly so we could go home. The guy I was supposed to hit with a snowball was relatively close to me, yet for the life of me I could not hit him! I’ve been acting since I was really young and haven’t had a lot of time to do lots of athletic things, like be on a softball team. My throw would go above his head, I hit the boy next to me, I threw it backwards; I even hit myself once! I could have been totally humiliated by the experience, but I just embraced it. These type of things show you’re comfortable with yourself and help you to be comfortable no matter what scenario or situation you’re facing. You can be silly and still have class, be respectful of others, and keep yourself composed.

BYOU_MayJune_2014 25.p1.pdf.r300You feel it’s really important to be nice, right?

B: Our goal in life should be to put a smile on the face of others. It’s such a waste of energy being mean and really so easy to do something nice for someone, like opening a door, picking up their pencil, giving them a compliment. It’s about being a team. Our world needs more people supporting and loving each other. If we can have a lot more kindness and niceness, we’ll all be a lot happier.

Why do you think people are mean? How can they get over it?

B: You have to love yourself to be able to love others and treat them well. Mean people do not love themselves. They may act like it on the outside, but there’s a big difference in being overly confident and truly loving yourself. When you love yourself, you have a quiet confidence, a peaceful knowing who you are and what you stand for and you don’t need to show off or brag.

If you want to make your life better and if you want to be happier and take a step into making your life filled with more laughs and smiles, then you need to start using your energy on that and not on bringing down others. When you bring down others, there’s NO WAY you can possibly feel good about that. Sure, it might make you feel more powerful for a minute or two, but after that it will go away and it’s not worth it and you’re not going to have a better life. You won’t be happier by doing mean things. So just take a breath and realize you can turn your life around and you can make a beautiful life for yourself because you are beautiful inside. No matter how you’re feeling right now, there is a part of us and a part of our hearts that is a beautiful person and you just have to trust that person and let that person come out and shine.

BYOU Magazine EXCLUSIVE Q&A: Bailee answered some extra questions fans submitted to us for our #BYOUchat Twitter Party with her:

@leavittgrace How much do you love your fans? My fans will NEVER know how much they mean to me! My heart is so grateful for each and every one of them!
@adav98 What are your top 3 favorite movies of all time? The Proposal, Something Borrowed and a new fave- The Fault in Our Stars! So beautiful. I cried so hard, didn’t you?
@_ashleyspears If you had the chance to travel anywhere in the world for one week, where would you go and why? My all time dream is to go to Bora Bora. To sleep in a hut over the ocean would be such an amazing thing.
@ricottalinda How do you manage screen time with school time? 🙂 To be completely honest, this is a work in progress! I am constantly working on developing better study habits and better time management. I do have a tutor on set that is with me and between scenes I get work done.
@classyjacki If you could meet anyone in the world, dead or alive, who would it be and why? This is SO hard because there are so many people that inspire me, but the first person to come to mind is Sandra Bullock. I am such a fan of her work and I would love to have the honor to meet her!
@mazidat_sanni How does it feel like to have as many fans as you do? Honored. I am grateful for each and every one of you.
@candylizzy202 What do you enjoy most when you are acting? EVERYTHING. From the moment I drive on to set to the very last shot of the day. I love every second of it.
@sumsumdavis What is your favorite thing you have acted in? Every project I have done will always hold a special place in my heart. It is so hard to pick a favorite because they are all so different and they all have the best memories!!! I will say though, Bridge To Terabithia would most likely be my favorite because it was the first film I did!
@queensharon84 Do you like to read? If so what do you like to read? 🙂 I do love to read, but unfortunately don’t read enough! That is definitely one of my goals for this summer… READ. MORE. BOOKS.
@woozana What made you become a successful actress? I honestly would not call my self a success, God has just blessed me so much with what I have been able to do and I am constantly learning every single day. Thank you so much for the kind compliment though!!!
@miracleglitter Out of all the productions you’ve acted in, which one is your favorite and which character role did you feel most connected with? Eeek!! That’s another tough one, but I’m going to say Once Upon a Time. I absolutely love getting to be young snow!!!!
@vanessa04061626 How does it feel to be on the cover of BYOU Magazine? It is such an honor to be on the cover of such an inspiring magazine. I love everything that BYOU stands for and the message they spread- every girl should be themselves and should love themselves!! We are all beautiful and we need to let our inner beauty shine!
